Greg’s guest on today’s show is Corey Colwell-Lipson, creator of Green Halloween, a non-profit community initiative to create healthier and more Earth-friendly holidays, beginning with Halloween. In addition to raising public awareness for how to keep the fun but loose the un-healthy and un-sustainable holiday habits, the Green Halloween initiative raises funds for health and environmentally-focused non-profits through sponsorship dollars.
Here’s some ideas from today’s show to help Green your Haloween:
• Swap costumes or decorations with a friend for next year
• Rent a costume from a costume shop instead of buying a cheap synthetic fabric one
• Forgo the candy for “Treats & Treasures”. Give kids a chance to rummage through a bowl of knick-knacks like shells, feathers, pipe cleaners, marbles, polished rocks and the like. Let them find that “One Special Treasure”.
• Replace the conventional candy with organic varieties. Fruit bars, popcorn, honey sticks, be creative. When given a choice kids will surprise you.
If you’re looking for another way to barter your gently used stuff check out Zwaggle it’s kind of an eBay for bartering.
