RecycleMania 2009
Registration is now open for the RecycleMania 2009
Newlygreens is going to be working with William Paterson University to try to get the campus involved.
What is RecycleMania? It is a friendly competition and benchmarking system among colleges and universities that provides the campus community with a fun, proactive way to engage with recycling and waste reduction. Over a 10-week period (January, 18 – March 28, 2009), campuses compete in different contests to see which institution can collect the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables, the least amount of trash per capita, or have the highest recycling rate. The competition is free for schools to join, and is open to colleges and universities internationally.
The main goal of this event is to increase student awareness of campus
recycling and waste minimization. Each week participating schools report their trash and recycling measurements and are in turn ranked next to other schools. In the end, RecycleMania helps all participating colleges and
universities make achievements in recycling and waste reduction!
RecycleMania staff will sponsor an orientation webinar to explain the rules and answer questions on Thursday, January 8th at 1pm Eastern.
Whether your school has participated in past years or is just considering involvement for the first time, this free webinar will be a good opportunity to learn about the basic structure, as well as changes to the rules for the 2009 competition.
Registration is open through January 16, however schools are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible. Free promotional posters are available to the first 400 schools that register. To register or just find out more, visit recyclemaniacs website. You can also reach RecycleMania staff directly at recyclemania@nrc-recycle.org or at (216) 712-7836.
RecycleMania is recognized by Princeton Review, Kaplan and Peterson’s college guide as an indicator of colleges and university sustainability efforts. Colleges and universities may also receive credit for RecycleMania participation with the President’s Climate Commitment.
