[part 3 of 3] The Green Goddess
Show Summary
Here is video excerpts from our previously posted audio interview with author, Sophie Uliano. Our apologies for doubling up on content, it’s the first time we tried video taping a spot on the radio show. Given the time constraints of the TV show we had to edit things down. Consider it a behind the scenes look at the radio show if nothing else
Advice so nice we had to air it twice…
We’re joined today by Sophie Uliano, author of Gorgeously Green. While the book has lots of useful facts and strategies we focus today on skin care and beauty products. Sophie has provided us with a Red List and and Orange List of the chemicals to watch for in what you currently use.
Get the Red Out
The Red List items are the real nasties. Items proven to have immediate detrimental health effects. Products containing these chemicals should be discontinued immediately:
Coal Tar
Fragrance – (An ambiguous term under which many really harmful chemicals can hide)
Hydroquinone
Aluminum
Triclosan
P-Phenylenediaminr
Lead and Mercury
Cumulatively Orange
The Orange List these products have been shown to have adverse effects when used over time. They are more widely found than those in the Red List. Products with these ingredients are “safe” to be used up, but you should look to replace these products with an alternative that does not contain Orange List items on your next trip to the store.
Mineral Oils
Parabens
Phthalates
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and sodium Lauryl Ether Sulfate (SLES)
Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)
Formaldehyde-Producing Preservatives
Talc
Acrylates and Methacrylates
Alcohol, Isopropyl (SD-40)

Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (Quats)
