Green Sprouts Oct 29th :: Fair Trade

HOW TO REVERSE TRICK-OR-TREAT!

• Go trick-or-treating door-to-door in your neighborhood, as you normally would.
• At each household you visit, after the kids receive candy from the adult at the doorstep, one of the children with
your group gives one of the informational cards/chocolates to the household while saying one of the lines
on the page for kids that follows.

Help your kids practice handing an informational card/chocolate to an adult and what they will say, especially if
your kids are young. Here are some possibilities:
o Thank you’ Here is a piece of Fair Trade chocolate for you
o Here is a card about how to end child slavery on cocoa farms
o Here is a card on how you can help end poverty for cocoa farming families
o Here is a card about how you can help cocoa farmers afford school for their kids
3. Read the Fair Trade Cocoa Book to your kids (at www.reversetrickottreating.org), to help your kids understand
social justice and environmental issues in the cocoa industry, and the significance of what they are doing when
Reverse Trick-or-Treating. A list of frequently asked questions for adults is also available on the website.
4. Optional: Print out Reverse Trick-or-Treating bag label at www.reversetrickortreating.org. The label is designed
to be attached to a grocery bag, so you can carry the Reverse Trick-or-Treating cards.
